The Lion Inn

Services: Branding, Packaging, Promotional, Web Design

The Lion Inn is an established restaurant, guest house and country pub, based in rural Worcestershire, United Kingdom. Their logo design and branding hadn’t changed for decades, and had become very dated when compared to the level of service being offered. It was my job to create an enduring identity that was a much better fit for the team’s professionalism and modern approach.

To give a subtle nod to its name, and to differentiate from the local competition, I created a modern lion illustration that would serve as a subtle logomark. I also updated the colour palette to a natural sand colour, with a range of greys and black, which retained the elegance and class of the establishment without being as brash as using gold.

The result gives distinction in the market place, and shows potential customers that the company is modern and professional, whilst retaining its country charm and traditions.

This work for The Lion Inn went on to be featured in the hardback book ‘Do Not Disturb: Hotel Graphics & Branding’ published by Promopress, which features the best of hotel design and branding from around the world.

Re-branding of anything can be tough, but a 12th century coaching inn was always going to be a challenge. However, finding the right person up for this challenge was easy. Geoffrey was the perfect fit. From the moment we started working together I knew we were on the same page. The ideas flowed… they developed…. and ultimately came together to complete a truly professional package that had myself, customers and employees suitably impressed. The process as a whole was seamless and I will be using Idun designs for future projects.
